But you could fish for coral trout, large snappers, and other reef fish anytime and catch Tanguigue (Spanish Mackerel), huge Pacific Tuan, and Morang (Dolpin Fish). You can also go mangrove fishing at the swamps of Del Carmen with its wide stretch of mangrove forest which is sanctuary of the large species of salt water crocodiles.
Siargao has superb sea kayaking opportunities - on the east side, facing the Philippine Trench, the deep blue sea runs straight up against a perfect tropical coast, offering unparalleled wave running. On the other side of the island, one of the country's largest epanses of virgin magrove swamp provides an entirely different kind of exploration. This centuries-old ecosystem is a rich breeding ground for marine life, including salt water crocodile, and is an adventure no kayaker will want to miss.
Siargao is a group of Islands comprising of Bucas Grande and the islets of Siargao Island with an area of 276,896 hectares encompasing 48 islands and islets politically subdivided into 9 municipalities - Burgos, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, Pilar, San Benito, Santa Monica and Socorro. Siargao Island contains the largest mangrove forest reserves in Mindanao, at Del Carmen. Long stretches of wetlands indicate a potential for commercial seaweed propagation. Siargao Island is greatly influenced by the winds and currents coming uninterrupted from the Pacific Ocean, intensified by the Mindanao current running westward through the Siargao Strait. Offshore, a classic tropical island lies protected within its surrounding coral reef with dozens of coconut palms dressed in the center circle of the island. Off to the right, well within the massive coastal reef, lies a shining white sand bar, (Pansukian, or Naked island) some 200 meters long. The tide of Siargao is diurnal with tidal curves typically present, especially on the east coast of the island.
